John L. Shetrone Jr.
President and CEO
John, a serial entrepreneur, is the co-founder and President/CEO of Vision Technologies, Inc., bringing over two decades of executive experience with information technology firms to the organization. Previously, John was one of the co-founders and principals of the Apex Group, a network integration company sold to ADC Telecommunications in 1997. John leads Vision Technologies as a hands-on CEO, working with the management team to develop the company’s core competencies, sales and marketing strategies, delivery methodologies, and reporting functions. John is extremely passionate about delivering 100% Customer Satisfaction, and a world-class Customer Experience. He developed and presents a company-wide culture-training curriculum focused on customer service, exceeding expectations and creating raving fans. John’s vision and leadership has grown the company to its current size of 350 employees, with revenues exceeding $78 Million annually. John’s service in the United States Navy resulted in a service-related disability, enabling Vision Technologies to secure a prime contracting role on the GSA VETS GWAC Contract, a $5 Billion government–wide acquisition vehicle, where Vision Technologies has achieved success as the #1 awardee in dollars awarded. John holds an electrical engineering degree from Capitol College and a Master of Administration Sciences degree from Johns Hopkins University. John has been recognized as a local business leader by SmartCEO Magazine, the Baltimore Business Journal, and Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year activities. Under his leadership, the company has ranked in the INC 5000 for the last 4 years, moving up steadily in the rankings, and been recognized by CRN Magazine as a national Top 20 Value Added Reseller.
Senior Vice President, Operations
As a founding partner at Vision, Mr. Nolan was integral to the company’s strategic direction and rapid expansion – from a handful of employees at the company’s inception in May 2000 to over $80 million in revenues and 350 employees in 2011. Mr. Nolan continues in this role, overseeing expansion of operations and services to meet revenue and profitability goals.
Mr. Nolan’s close partnership with Vision CEO, John Shetrone, dates back all the way to 1992 when Mr. Shetrone hired him as an engineer with The Apex Group, a previous company of Mr. Shetrone’s. Mr. Nolan quickly rose within The Apex Group – from engineer to manager to director for the Mid-Atlantic region. During his period as director, Mr. Nolan was instrumental in the growth and profitability of his division by simultaneously initiating new client services (such as consulting, help desk, and network design and engineering,) while establishing processes to streamline operations and improve quality. This latter work was expanded when Mr. Nolan helped oversee the migration of The Apex Group to an ISO 9001-certified company in 1997 – one of the first service-oriented companies of its size to achieve this designation.
Mr. Nolan’s technical background and expertise date back to his service in the United States Air Force – with duties that included installing, testing, and maintaining secure telecommunications systems in a highly classified environment. He was recognized repeatedly for the quality of his work, earning two Air Force Achievement Awards and numerous letters of commendation during this period.
Albert (Al) Saxon
Senior Vice President, Marketing
An early member of the Vision Technologies executive team, Al Saxon has directed the development and implementation of the highly successful sales and marketing strategies for the past 11 years. Al led the company’s transition from a commercial-only company to federal contractor with tremendous results. In the relatively short span of 5 years, Vision Technologies has grown from a solid $18 Million commercial company to an $80 Million IT Integrator supporting a wide variety of federal clients in both the civilian and DOD markets. Al is responsible for the development of Vision Technologies’ Schedule 70 contract, and led the company’s efforts to secure the VETS GWAC contract in both functional areas. While securing contracts in excess of $50 Million using the Schedule 70, and over $160 Million on the VETS GWAC, Vision Technologies has established a record of flawless performance and project execution providing an outstanding customer experience.
Vision Technologies has been recognized as one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s Hottest Companies in the US, CRN Magazine’s Top 20 Fastest Growing VARs for 2010, and as an Inc. 5000 company for the last 4 years in a row. Al leads the efforts of the company in support of a variety of veteran and service-disabled veteran causes.
S. Michael Quade
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Michael is a Certified Public Accountant with over 25 years of comprehensive, progressive experience in providing accounting and strategic financial management services to leading-edge firms. Having served in public accounting and financial leadership positions for numerous high-growth privately held companies, Mr. Quade enables Vision to achieve its strategic goals. Beginning his career in 1987 as a Senior Auditor with the Baltimore office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mr. Quade proved himself a thoroughly capable financial executive and in 2000 became Chief Financial Officer of G1440, Inc., a 100+ person professional services firm specializing in integrating business and technology.
He has been a Chief Financial Officer for over 11 years –– six of them with Vision Technologies during a critical growth phase that has seen the company’s revenue grow from $15 Million annually to over $80 Million. During his tenure, Mr. Quade has also implemented automated processes such as timekeeping and payroll systems, from paper-based to on-line, paperless systems, fully integrated into its ERP system.
Senior Vice President, Federal Systems and CTO
Mr. Sandberg joined the Vision team in May of 2003 and was appointed SVP and CTO in 2007. Since 2007, the Federal Systems Services Group has grown from several staff members to an operation managing over 150 employees and over $180 Million in multi-year contracts. In this capacity, he is responsible for the executive-level management of Vision's Federal Systems Services Group, one of the company’s most integral and rapidly advancing divisions. He shares with Vision over 30 years of progressive, broad-ranging experience in both information technology and operations management, 25 of which have seen him serve at the VP and director level in strategic planning, implementation, and ongoing support of enterprise networks and data centers.
Mr. Sandberg began his career in IT services in 1977 with EG&G in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Since then, Mr. Sandberg has ascended through a series of vital leadership positions, including that of Vice President of International and Domestic Data Centers for CenturyLink Communications International. There he played a key role in developing and implementing Data Center Managed and Hosting services. He has brought his innovative talent to Vision, where he has been integral to the development of strategic direction for Vision's Federal Systems Services Group, crafting a solid, diversified information technology services organization.
